Governor Vacancies

18 June 2021

Dear Parents and Carers

Vacancies for New Governors

We have vacancies on our Governing Board which might be of interest to some parents and carers.  We are looking for governors with passion and commitment to join an active team supporting Falkland School.

The Governing Board has three core strategic roles which are:

  1. Ensuring clarity of vision, ethos and strategic direction
  2. Holding the Headteacher to account for the educational performance of the school and its pupils
  3. Overseeing the financial performance of the school and making sure its money is well spent

The Governing Board works as a team and gives governors the opportunity to learn new skills as well as building on existing skills and knowledge. We are particularly keen to recruit governors who have experience in one or more of the following areas together with enthusiasm, commitment and aninterest in education:

  • Finance
  • Social Media & Marketing
  • Understanding data sets

Governors are expected to attend full governing body meetings that are normally held around six times per year during term time. Meetings are normally held (face to face or virtually) at 7pm on Monday evening and last approximately two hours. Two of our board meetings are held as part of Governor Days in school when governors can also experience normal school day activities and talk to the children and staff.  Governors will also be expected to be a member of a specialist governor group/committee or to take on the role of link governor in a particular area.  These meetings vary between daytime or evening and dates are set well in advance and to suit most participating members.

Governors are expected to:

  • Attend meetings
  • Maintain confidentiality
  • Commit to training, which will be provided
  • Visit the school (at least once per long term in addition to the two Governor Days in School)

Time commitment is usually 6-8 hours per month (term time only) and if you are working you can ask your employer for ‘reasonable time off’ to carry out your duties.

If you are interested in finding out more about becoming a governor, or have any friends or colleagues who might be interested, please email the Clerk to the Board at:
